Dr. Sood asserts that each individual possesses a unique learning style and set of skill capabilities.
As a young child enters formal schooling, certain pre-requisites to learning are necessary. As he or she progresses from learning
to read to reading to learn, from understanding the written word to producing the written word, from learning to organize
oneself to setting learning goals, the student may encounter difficulties which hinder the development of his or her skill
set. As skills erode, confidence erodes. Confidence and self-esteem greatly influence the progress that students make in school.
It is important that each student possesses a solid skill foundation in order to confidently meet the demands of the curriculum.
Tailored to meet the needs of the individual's skill capabilities, Dr. Sood initially
meets with the student in order to determine his or her skill needs. Dr. Sood asserts, "A myriad of issues can cause a bright
student to fall farther and farther behind as schooling progresses. While one 3rd grade student may sound great reading, he
or she may not have mastered the specific comprehension skills to determine the main idea or draw conclusions. Another student
in the same classroom may have difficulty reading smoothly and with accuracy but have strong comprehension skills when read
to. A 7th grade student may be able to demonstrate solid reading, writing and math skills but has difficulty organizing his
or her work and demonstrating good study skills. A high school student may find that strong grades don't necessarily translate
into strong S.A.T scores due to a general vocabulary or upper level reading comprehension weakness or trouble with writing
concise responses to specific statements within a specific time frame."
Regardless of what is ahead, the student's program at Educational Diagnostic Services always
begins at a level where the student is comfortable and moves forward rapidly and challengingly but at the student's pace.
Tutoring is designed to develop lifetime educational skills and confidence. "We do not work on homework but rather provide
the skill framework so that a student can meet the challenge of school instruction and homework more effectively and with
confidence."
Dr. Sood initially meets personally with each student, not only to determine specific skill
levels, but also to ascertain hidden weaknesses, which can be developed to solidify overall skills. Testing provides a basis
for which an individualized program can be developed.

Once Dr. Sood has met and worked with the student and developed a program which is clearly
outlined to the parent, tutoring sessions are scheduled in order to work one-to-one with a teacher at the convenient EDS facility
on Route 1 in Falmouth. Teachers come to Educational Diagnostic Services with a wide range of expertise within all levels
of reading, mathmatics and writing instruction. Dr. Sood continues to meet with students' parents and teachers work with
students providing a structured, supportive and caring learning experience. Dr. Sood feels strongly that "students learn best
in an environment conducive to learning, where time is consistently set aside to work on specific areas." She finds that
"when parents are committed to developing life-long skills rather than simply getting students through a history or algebra
class, they can see their child's confidence and grades improve dramatically." As a mother of two, Dr. Sood understands that
educational opportunity is one of the best gifts that a parent can give.
